Don't fall for this rumour about free internet data

Be warned. The Department of Telecommunications has not announced any free internet for mobile users in the country till May 3. If you have received a message on WhatsAppFacebook,or any other social media platforms which asks you to click on a link to get free internet, then don't just fall for it. The message is fake and given link is an absolute fraud.

According to a fact check done by the Press information Bureau(PIB), this claim is wrong and is once again advising people to not fall for rumours. The rumour was busted by the official account of PIB Fact Check on Twitter.

DOT has announced to provide free internet to all mobile users by May 3, 2020, to which one has to click on a given link. Fact: users claim is completely false, and the given link is fake. Please stay away from rumors and fraudsters."

Rumors and online scams have gained traction during these times of coronavirus outbreak. Earlier this month, the State Bank Of India warned its customers against a new kind of OT fraud. In a post on microblogging site Twitter, the bank said that the fraudsters have found new ways to cheat people. In this new kind of cybercrime, customers get calls from the scamsters to share their OTP in order to postpone their loan EMIs.
